This standard specifies the headspace/gas chromatography method for determining methanol in ambient air and waste gases. It applies to the determination of methanol in ambient air, air at unorganized emission mo nitoring points, and waste gases from fixed pollution sources with organized emissions. For ambient air and air at unorganized emission mo nitoring points, with a sampling volume of 20 L and an injection volume of 1.0 mL, the method detection limit is 0.05 mg/m3 and the measurement limit is 0.2 mg/m3. For waste gases from fixed pollution sources with organized emissions, with a sampling volume of 10 L and an injection volume of 1.0 mL, the method detection limit is 0.1 mg/m3 and the measurement limit is 0.4 mg/m3.
Haohan Chromatography (Shandong) Application Technology Co., Ltd. established a method for the qualitative and quantitative determination of methanol in ambient air or industrial waste gas using pure water direct absorption, employing headspace sampling and gas chromatography. The method has a minimum detection mass co ncentration of 0.590 mg·m^-3, with relative standard deviations ranging between 4.8% and 7.2%, and spiked recovery rates between 89% and 115%. The results demo nstrate that the method is simple, sensitive, with a favorable linear range, low detection limit, good precision, and accurate qualitative and quantitative analysis. Practical sample measurements co nfirm that it fully meets the mo nitoring requirements for methanol in ambient air and waste gas.
